Interactive eBook prototype for fantasy novels

Prototyping a new type of eBook that incorporates more visual elements and interactivity to enhance the fantasy novel experience

This project began many years ago as an excited conversation between two friends: an artist and an author barely in to their undergraduate education. Both Dorian, the author, and me, the artist, shared an avid love for fantasy books and games, and wished there was a way to combine the best of both worlds.

Many years later, while working on my Master’s degree at Digipen, I realized this would make an excellent thesis project, and devoted a large portion of my time there to create this early prototype for the interactive eBook experience Dorian and I had talked about for so long.

The Tongues of Trouble app is a collaborative effort, where Dorian created the written portion, characters, and world-building content, and I created all of the artistic and technical content to package into a functioning prototype. While the project is still a work in progress, and the product is something we hope to continue refining and improving over the years, this page is dedicated to the first functioning version of the application.

The application was built and published with Unity 2017, and is available as a downloadable .exe file on request. Please contact me for more details.
